Kitesurf Rental in Tarifa with Supervision – How It Works at High Spirits

Kitesurf student setting up kite gear for a supervised rental session on the beach with High Spirits Tarifa.

Almost every kite school in Tarifa offers rental services – and so do we.
The most common question we get from students and guests is:
“How does rental work with you guys?”

Instead of explaining it every time, here’s a clear and honest answer:
How our rental works, what supervision really means – and why we do things a little differently.

Why our rental is different

Many schools simply hand you a kite, board, and harness – and you go to the beach on your own.
Sounds convenient.
But: Tarifa is not a beginner spot.

Changing wind directions, offshore conditions, shorebreak, waves, strong gusts – here you need experience and good judgment.

In the past, rentals caused us a lot of stress.
Gear got damaged, people overestimated their level, or didn’t handle the conditions well.
That’s why we completely changed our rental system.

Our concept: Rental only with supervision

When you rent from us, you get more than just a kite and board.
You also get on-site support, honest advice, and a helping hand when needed.

Here’s how it works:
•€100 per day (max. 5 hours of kiting)
•Included: kite, board, bar, harness, helmet, vest
•You go to the beach with us – no pickup or solo missions
•We help you choose the right kite size for the conditions
•Support with setup, trimming, launching & landing
•Spot briefing and local safety tips
•If the wind changes, you can switch kites on the beach

Once you’re on the water, you are fully responsible.

Supervision means:
We’re present, we keep an eye on you – but we’re not your instructor.
Think of us as your beach buddy – not your coach.
You must be fully independent in the water.
Supervision just means: you’re not alone, but you’re in charge.

Who can rent from us?

Our rental is for fully independent riders – people who know what they’re doing, even in tough conditions.

Ideally, you’ve been a student with us before.
But even if you’re new to us – you can still rent if you meet these requirements:

👉 You must be able to:
•Ride upwind safely
•Launch & land with a helper
•Understand and use safety systems
•Bodydrag upwind to retrieve your board
•Relaunch your kite in waves
•Control your kite in gusty wind – also on the beach
•Bodydrag through shorebreak safely
•Know and apply right of way rules
•Handle emergencies on your own

If we see during the intro or beach setup that your level isn’t as described, we’ll cancel the rental.
In that case, we charge a €50 service fee, and – if possible – offer you a spot in a course.
What’s not included?

•❌ No insurance – you need your own (IKO or VDWS recommended):
•❌ No liability for lost or damaged equipment
•❌ No rescue card included – must be purchased separately when wind is offshore

How long can I kite?
•Maximum of 5 hours per day
•We’re fair if the wind drops or conditions aren’t ideal
•❌ No “4-hour break, then 3 more hours later” setups
•If you’re looking for that kind of freedom, a classic rental shop might be a better fit

Why does our rental cost more – and why is it worth it?

Yes, €100 per day is more than what some shops charge.
But here’s what you get:

 Personal support on the beach
Local spot knowledge & safety advice
Flexible kite changes if conditions shift
16 years of experience with Tarifa’s winds
Peace of mind – because you’re not alone out there

To sum it up:

We don’t just hand you gear –
we’ve got your back.

If you’re confident in your skills and appreciate a little backup at the beach:
Welcome to High Spirits Kitesurf.

If you prefer full independence and no interaction – then a basic rental shop might be a better fit. And that’s totally fine too.
