When people think of Tarifa, they usually think about wind. Kites. And the famous Levante blowing through the town.

What many people forget is that Tarifa also offers great waves. And on the right days, they can be surprisingly good.

That’s why at High Spirits we don’t just offer kitesurfing lessons – we also provide surf lessons and surfboard rental in Tarifa.

Surf in the morning, kite in the afternoon

Especially during summer, we often enjoy the perfect combination: light winds and clean waves in the morning for surfing, followed by the arrival of the Poniente or Levante in the afternoon for an amazing kite session.

Two completely different sessions in one day. That’s one of the things that makes Tarifa so special.

That’s why we offer surf lessons and surfboard rental alongside our kitesurfing courses. Not because we have to, but because we genuinely love surfing ourselves and know how good the conditions can be.

When and where are the best conditions?

During summer, the waves are often perfect for beginners – small, consistent and easy to learn on. In spring and autumn, the swells usually become bigger, creating great conditions for more experienced surfers as well.

Because conditions change every day, we check the forecast every morning and choose the most suitable surf spot for each lesson. That’s one of the advantages of spending more than 16 years on Tarifa’s beaches.

Our Surf Lessons in Tarifa

Our lessons are designed for complete beginners catching their very first wave, as well as intermediate surfers who want to improve their technique.

We start with a short beach briefing, cover the essential safety basics and then get into the water as quickly as possible. We don’t believe in long theory sessions. Surfing is learned in the ocean.

Our instructors will help you find the correct position on the board, recognise the right moment to stand up and develop a real feeling for the waves. Step by step, with as much water time as possible.

Surfboard Rental in Tarifa

Already surfing independently and just looking for a board?

We rent high-quality Ocean & Earth softboards in different sizes, suitable for beginners as well as relaxed surfers looking to enjoy Tarifa’s waves. A wetsuit is always included with every rental.

Please note: Damage to the board or lost fins are not covered by insurance and will be charged separately.

Why We Do It

We spend many of our winters on surf trips. Not because we want to add another activity to our website, but because surfing is one of our biggest passions.

Everything we learn during those trips goes straight into our lessons. We spend as much time in the water as possible ourselves and share the tips and experience that have helped us throughout our own surfing journey.
